Should We “Load Up” on Protein?

According to Dr. Joel Fuhrman in his book “Fasting and Eating for Health” we should not “load up” on protein.  From pg. 95 he writes “…high protein diets are linked with the development of serious diseases including cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus…and kidney stones.”

Simply put ” As human animals we are not biologically adapted to a high protein diet.”

I will try to build my leg muscles without protein supplementation.

Words of Encouragement

I did not achieve all that I wanted to today and I was also feeling very tired and a little sad.  I called a few friends of mine to talk, but the words that cheered me and inspired me were spoken by my friend Toni, the woman who was diagnosed with cancer and rather than do Chemo, quit all white flour, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, alcohol, etc. and is still alive today.  Cancer free.

What she said was 1.  That my battle to overcome and cure MS was very brave and unique and that not taking this “lying down” was very commendable.  2.  That God is everywhere…God is everywhere.

Pleasant Surprise

Basically, I am eating like a peasant ate 600 years ago.  In an effort to reduce carbs and improve health (and heal my MS scars) I am not eating meat.  I will still eat fish for the oils to help my scars heal, but I will mainly eat salad.

Today, my family and I went to dinner and the price paid for my meal was less than 1/2 of the price paid for everyone else’s.  I should have done this years ago.  My diet will also help to cure my MS.

Fasting and Healing for Health, By Dr. Joel Fuhrman

I am reading this book now and adopting the diet ideas as I read.  The eating is very similar to what I am currently doing.  I will basically use the book to strengthen my current diet.  Basically, increase my fruit and vegetables to about 99% of my daily diet.

Can Drinking Water Make The Kids Smarter?

Remember, I take any advantage that I can.  I am reading a book called “How Not to Die” by Michael Greger, M.D.  From Pg. 382, the author quotes researchers that compared two groups of 11 to 13 year old students, one group drank 8 oz of water before each test and one that did not.  The group that drank the water before the test performed significantly better, over and over again.

I will have the kids drink 8oz. of water each day before breakfast, starting tomorrow.

Fasting

To cut carbs, first I will stop eating by 5pm each day.  Because what I eat is very simple (vegetables, fruit and fish) I am hoping that my body is able to digest quickly and work on healing while I sleep rather than work on food digestion.

Once I have gotten used to stopping food by 5pm each day, then I will attempt a short (one or two day) fast.  I will use a book called “Fasting and Eating for Health” by Dr. Joel Furman as my guide.

At the very least, I will save $$.

The Power of Myth By Joseph Campbell with Bill Moyers

I am going to quote the last line of a quote on the first page…”I think that what we are seeking is an experience of being alive,…so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.”

Is that what I am looking to do in my meditation, dieting and soon to happen healing?  I am looking for the feel of being alive?

Well, tomorrow I will try to begin building upper body strength.  I will add daily push ups to my routine.

Inspiration

I just watched a T.V. video of Bob Cafaro and his battle and victory over M.S.  www.bobcafaro.com  It is not that the cure for cancer or M.S. is medically impossible, the cure is medically NOT PROFITABLE.

I am increasing my exercises to go to the  gym 3 days each week and do more stretching, deep breathing, meditation and yoga each day.

Today Was Much Better

I drank my water.  Drinking you water for someone with MS and for everyone makes a huge difference.

I am also going to try to reduce my carbs.  I do not eat any rice  (even cold) or bread (even gluten free) but I might eat more than one banana in a day.  Not any more.  One banana max.

Also, I will go water walking each Sunday now also.

Very Sluggish and Very Tired

I slept late and I was very tired today.  Perhaps the reason why is because I did not meditate or drink my water today.  I will wake tomorrow very early to begin my stretching/deep breathing and meditation.  I will also go water walking.

Lets see how tomorrow goes.
